Liverpool’s ‘forgotten man’ will immediately be in Jurgen Klopp’s plans

The Man City game at the weekend was frantic. Content with a point and the way Liverpool played, or should they have made more of their excellent start to the match?

I’d have taken a point before kick-off, to be honest – but that may have just been because of a weird suspicion I had, not for any tactical reasons.

The schedule feels like it’s been a bit busy of late, made worse by the significant injuries in the senior squad, and I think that was reflected in the second-half at the Etihad.

The lads looked shattered and I feel like there were times we could have lost it, so yeah – happy enough with the point this time.

Liverpool have made a pretty good start to the season, all things considered, given who they have played and their Champions League position. What have you made of it and where can they improve?

It’s a fine thing to be talking about improvements when we’re one point off the top of the Premier League table and top of our Champions League group, but I think we could do with tightening up at the back.

The long-term absence of Virgil van Dijk is obviously horrific, but we’d already shown vulnerability before that when Alisson was out for a month.

We could do with some more high-quality depth at the back, and that includes in-between the sticks.

Mohamed Salah has 10 goals already this season and is scoring at a higher rate than the same stage of the season when he got 44. How many can he get this season?

It’d be unreasonable to expect him to continue this run for the next 40-odd games, but I can see him bagging around 30 goals in all competitions this season from open play – easy.

But to be honest, with the way VAR decisions are going so far this season, he could bag an additional 15 from the penalty-spot alone! He’s already scored five from 12 yards, so who knows?!

Thiago Alcantara is still yet to play at Anfield and has totalled just 135 minutes of Reds action to date. What will he add to the team when fully fit?

I can’t pretend like I’m an expert on Thiago, but his class was there for all to see in those 135 minutes. He’s one of the best midfielders in the world and has been for the best part of the decade.

The most notable thing I can think of is his ability to play intelligent balls over the top, which is something we’ve lacked in recent years, as most of our forward play happens on the flanks.
