Although she announced that she won’t be able to compete in any official tournament in 2022, Simona Halep will take part in a new tennis event called World Tennis League, which will take place before Christmas in Dubai.

Other tennis stars that have announced their participation in Dubai are Iga Swiatek, Novak Djokovic, Nick Kyrgios, Elena Rybakina, and Alexander Zverev. Iga Swiatek talked about the new event: “I like it most when tennis connects people and when it’s true entertainment.

When it’s combined with a great show and music, it’s even better, so that’s the reason why I’m excited to join this year’s World Tennis League. I’m happy that together with other top players we’ll introduce tennis as fun to new audiences.

I can’t wait!” Djokovic also added: “This new event is exciting, there’s no doubt about it,” said Djokovic in a WTL release. “I absolutely love playing in Dubai, I’ve had a lot of success there over the years and really enjoy the fans.

This is something different, and it’s going to be great being a part of it.” Read more about World Tennis League: Djokovic, Swiatek, and Kyrgios to spend Christmas eve together at World Tennis League.

Simona Halep on her 2022 season

Halep decided to not compete in any official tournament in 2022, following her bad US Open campaign and nose surgery.

“Having problems with the breathing for many years already and becoming worse with the time, I decided to follow the advice of my doctors and do the needed surgery. I couldn’t do it earlier because I never found the necessary three months for recovery.

I did also the esthetic past, that I wanted to do for a long time as I did not like my nose at all. I know many of you can understand me,” Halep added. Speaking on her next plans, Halep said she will take some time to rest and heal before returning to action.

“For the moment I am not thinking anything but recovery. What is sure, is that this year I won’t be able to compete in any official tournament anymore. My 2022 season is over. 2022, you have been an interesting year full of everything!

See you on court, 2023! I feel I still have a lot to do on a tennis court and still have some goals,” Halep concluded.
