After Chase Elliott & Denny Hamlin’s Standoff, Joey Logano Blames NASCAR Teams

All throughout the 2022 NASCAR Cup season, there has been a spate of tire issues. The Cup race at the Texas Motor Speedway was a big indicator that something was horribly wrong. This was because there were several drivers who crashed out because of tires consistently failing. In light of this, Team Penske driver Joey Logano spoke about the problems that the drivers face.

He said, “I really think the tire itself. There’s a few different issues going on and there’s not one fix that’s going to fix everything. I think the teams don’t know where the limitations are, of the tire. When they set up the race car, they’re setting it up to what they think is optimal. But they don’t know where the durability of the tire lies, because we don’t have a lot of practice and it’s our first time going to these race tracks.”

“Texas, we ran the All-Star race, but we never made long runs. So we all found the edge, and I guarantee that if we went back to Texas tomorrow, you wouldn’t see that many tires blow out.”

Did any other driver agree with Joey Logano?

There was a bit of a debate between Denny Hamlin and Chase Elliott on the matter, and Hamlin was hugely critical of the Goodyear tires.

However, Elliott chose to cut them a little bit of slack and insisted that Goodyear was not at fault. According to the Hendrick Motorsports star, Goodyear often took a black eye in matters like these. It is interesting to note that he did blame NASCAR for putting the tire supplier in such a tricky position.

This might be because the company is under pressure to build a tire that can survive different types of racetracks with the Next Gen car.
