DeAndre Gholston takes turn as Mizzou basketball’s scoring threat in lopsided

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Houston Christian tasted the full menu of what’s made this Missouri men’s basketball team so good through the first month of the season.
The balance. The tempo. The unselfishness.
Saturday’s matinee at Mizzou Arena was another pre-ordained mismatch as the Tigers closed their seven-game, season-opening homestand with a 105-69 victory. Dennis Gates’ team scored the game’s first 16 points and seized a commanding 20-point lead before HCU connected on its first field goal.
This was hardly a mid-major juggernaut visiting Mizzou Arena. The Huskies’ only win has come against Champion Christian College. Earlier this month, they lost at Texas by 51 points.

The Tigers know the schedule gets grueling from here — the first road game comes Tuesday at Wichita State — but with 7,610 in the building Saturday, they put their strengths on full display.
“They just keep coming at you,” Houston Christian coach Ron Cottrell said. “They play so many different ways. Their transition was really good. It was really a hard scout, because we had to prepare for so many different guys and so many different things they do. … We talk about scouting guys and plays and how we’re going to guard certain things. But you can’t really prepare for them like that.”
