Paula Badosa, Ons Jabeur join Novak Djokovic on PTPA executive committee

Novak Djokovic’s Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) has unveiled its first-ever executive committee. Djokovic, who founded the PTPA with Vasek Pospisil during the 2020 US Open, has the goal of helping fellow players secure better rights.
Now, Djokovic’s PTPA has unveiled its first-ever executive committee and it is featuring well-known and respected tennis names – Djokovic, Pospisil, Ons Jabeur, Paula Badosa, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Saisai Zheng, Hubert Hurkacz, John Isner.
In their statement, the PTPA said: “The eight founding Committee members will contribute their diversified perspectives and career experiences to this important new leadership body. They will help the Committee provide strategic leadership to build out the organization and advance the PTPA’s mission and business agenda.”

Also in their statement, the PTPA revealed their five core principles: “1: Take collective action and advocate on behalf of tennis players globally.
2: Obtain players’ fair share of the business of tennis and terms of participation. 3: Optimize and rigorously protect tennis players’ rights. 4: Safeguard tennis player’s’ welfare and protect players from abuse.
5: Advocate for, and contribute to, the best vision and structure of tennis globally.” The NBA and NFL have players’ unions, which represent players and step in when they feel one of the players needs protection.
When Djokovic created the PTPA, one of his biggest goals was to give players protection and ensure better rights in certain areas. Pospisil, who founded the PTPA with Djokovic, told Reuters this will be a historical moment: “There’s every indicator out there now that this will be a huge moment for our sport.
Every player that we have on there is so respected, very well liked, intelligent… They’ll be huge assets and we’re very lucky that they’ve joined.” Two and a half years ago, Djokovic left the ATP players’ council and formed a players-only association. It is not a secret that the ATP has never been a fan of Djokovic’s PTPA project.
