Massive crash happens during restart at NASCAR race
The first half of the Pala Casino 400 at Auto Club Speedway has been a bit of a wreckfest. After multiple single-car crashes, a massive pileup occurred on the restart.
Lap 86 of the 200 lap race, Ty Dillon was the first to get out of line. After that, the track was pretty much blocked as over a quarter of the field was involved in the crash. Aric Almirola, Christopher Bell, Tyler Reddick, and Ryan Preece fell out of the race. Ryan Blaney was also involved but continued.
It was a typical chain reaction restart crash. Where the reactions of those in front affected those in the back. Everyone is trying to perfectly time the restart. And when someone doesn’t do that, it might not be an issue for them but it’ll be an issue for those further back.
That’s exactly what happened, and a few potential contenders fell out of the race. It’s been a hectic race so far with Kyle Larson experiencing an electrical problem and single-car crashes including Brad Keselowski, AJ Allmendinger, and Corey LaJoie.
This is the final NASCAR Cup Series race on the two-mile oval as Auto Club Speedway will be converted to a short track. The Xfinity Series will race after the Cup Series as their race was delayed due to rain.
