Who Is Sheryl Swoopes, the Female Michael Jordan?


Standing 6 feet tall, Sheryl Swoopes is regarded as one of the dominant female athletes of her time which got her to referred as the female Michael Jordan. It was not just her dominance but her consistent performances in WNBA that earned her the name. She is the first female player ever to get signed in WNBA in 1996 and just 6 weeks after she gave birth to her son.

 

Sheryl Swoopes was drafted in 1997 by the Houston Comets as a shooting guard and small forward. In her 11 seasons career with the franchise, she made a total of 2000 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists, and 200 steals. Besides this, her achievements are to be looked at. 4 Championships, 6 All-Stars, 1 All-Star Game MVP, 3 MVPs, 2-time scoring champions, and 2-time steals leader. 

 

However, after ending her 11-year season there she was then traded to the Seattle Storm in 2009 just for a season. Later in 2011, she was again traded to Tulsa Shock for a season. At that time she was named one of the Top 15 Players of All Time in the WNBA All-Star Game of 2011. Besides this, she also played internationally in 3 Olympics games, 4 World Cups, and a Goodwill Games. 

Thus, the female edition of Michael Jordan once got a chance to play against him.

As the two most dominant and great players in their league, Sheryl couldn’t win over the legend. But, on her part, the four-time champion gave her best shots at him. During the post-game interview, she also was not left impressed by him and made some comments on the legend. “He was tired, old, and out of shape, you know,” she said. 

Despite the loss, Sheryl was a great female player in the WNBA and is known for her credibility and achievements. Comparing her to the NBA legend Michael Jordan is a big thing for the former player.
