‘We almost had to risk our lives to enter the top ten in FP3’ – Aleix Espargaro

The format of the sprint races implies other changes in the structure of the MotoGP weekend, which has one less free practice and starts to set who qualifies directly for Q2 after the second free session – which is on friday afternoon, and not on saturday morning as FP3.

Aleix Espargaro considers this to be a good change, taking into account that looking for a fast lap and a place in the top ten in the morning FP3, with the lowest temperatures usual in Europe, was a considerable risk:

– There is one very positive thing, at least for me: the riders didn’t like the third free practice on saturday at all. Usually here in Europe it is very cold, we almost had to risk our lives to enter the top ten because we knew the importance. Therefore, you would risk much more in a third free practice than in a timed one. And now there is no such session – on friday it will be timed, but in the afternoon, with better temperatures, with everything a little more in place. This is the only positive. And then saturday is going to be hot.
