Novak Djokovic underlines that Daniil Medvedev “can never be underestimated” and noted that the Russian is a legitimate Grand Slam title contender wherever he goes. Medvedev, 27, is a four-time Grand Slam finalist and he has one Major title in his collection.

In the 2021 US Open final, Medvedev won his first Grand Slam after beating Djokovic. Djokovic, who started the 2023 season with a perfect 15-0 record, was beaten by Medvedev 6-4 6-4 in the Dubai semifinal. “He’s a former No.

1 and a Grand Slam winner. He has grown to be one of the most important players in the world in the last five-plus years. His place is definitely top 10 – top five I would say. It was just a matter of time when he’s going to be a contender for Grand Slam titles.

He is a contender for Grand Slam titles, no doubt. We can never underestimate Daniil,” Djokovic said after the match, per Sportskeeda.

Medvedev did a bit better than Djokovic in their Dubai match

Earlier this year, Djokovic defeated Medvedev in the Adelaide semifinal for his fourth consecutive win over the Russian.

In Dubai, Medvedev came out determined not to lose to Djokovic for a fifth consecutive time. After ending his four-match losing streak against Djokovic, Medvedev credited his focus and calmness in the key moments. “When you play against Novak you just have to play your best.

Kind of hope he doesn’t play his best on the day because when he plays his best, well he has 22 Grand Slams, so even if you play your best, it is going to be tough, not sure you win. I managed to play a higher level than him today.

In the second set I didn’t face one break point, but there were so many 30/30 games. But I managed to stay composed and I am happy to be in the final tomorrow,” Medvedev said after beating Djokovic.
