Men’s Volleyball Remains Perfect on the Road

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The No. 2 University of Hawai’i men’s volleyball team remained unbeaten on the road this season with a straight-set win over No. 14 CSUN, Friday in the first of two Big West matches at Premier America Credit Union Arena. Set scores were 25-22, 25-14, 25-18.
 
The Rainbow Warriors (19-2, 2-1 BWC) improved to 6-0 on the road and extended their road win streak to eight matches. All six road wins this season have come in straight sets. The match was UH’s first on the continent in over a month after spending five straight weekends in Honolulu.
 
Chaz Galloway continued his hot streak with a team-high 12 kills, hitting .500. Spyros Chakas had nine kills, six digs, and three blocks while Dimitrios Mouchlias added eight kills and four blocks.
 
Setter Jakob Thelle dished out 30 assists and led the Warriors to a season-best .478 hitting percentage. Hawai’i also had five aces and 10 total team blocks.
 
CSUN (12-8, 1-2) was led by Kyle Hobus, who shared match-high kill honors with Galloway with 12 kills. Griffin Walters added 10 kills and seven digs.
 

 
UH pulled away late in Set 1. CSUN used a 4-1 run to tie it at 20 but the Warriors immediately responded with a three straight kills, including two by Galloway for a three-point lead. The Matadors pulled to within one before a service error and kill by Chakas closed it out.
 
In Set 2, the Warriors scored four unanswered, capped by an ace by Thelle for a 11-7 advantage. The lead was 16-12 before UH out-scored the Matadors 9-2 to put away the set. Hawai’i hit .609 while holding CSUN to .185.
 
Hawai’i jumped out to a 11-6 lead in Set 3. The lead ballooned to eight before the Matadors pulled within four at 21-17. The Warriors reeled off the four of the final five points to put the finishing touches on the sweep.
