Julian Nagelsmann out of running to become new Tottenham Hotspur head coach

Julian Nagelsmann is out of the running to be the next permanent head coach of Tottenham Hotspur.

The 35-year-old has been one of the biggest names linked to Tottenham as they try to find a long-term replacement for Antonio Conte, who left on 26 March.

He had been sacked by Bayern Munich and replaced with Thomas Tuchel earlier that week.

But while Nagelsmann was one of the names under consideration at Tottenham as they produced a long list of candidates and ran a thorough due diligence process, he will not be part of the final interview stage of the process.

They have not interviewed him and will not be doing so as they try to complete their search for next season’s head coach.

Nagelsmann’s elimination will turn fans’ attention to the other names Tottenham have been considering, including Luis Enrique, a favourite of former managing director of football Fabio Paratici, Feyenoord’s Arne Slot, Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim and Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso.

Nagelsmann had long been admired at Tottenham, with Spurs impressed by his work at Hoffenheim and Leipzig, and then considering moving for him in 2021, only for the German coach to have signed a contract with Bayern just before Spurs sacked Jose Mourinho.

Tottenham are next in action against Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday.
