HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — A large mixed-use project proposed in Huntersville has received a positive response from town leaders so far in the rezoning process. On Tuesday night, developers proposing the project won key support.

The Huntersville Planning Board unanimously recommended approval of a rezoning request from Treenail Development at its meeting. The Davidson-based developer is seeking to rezone about 70 acres off Hambright Road to allow for the development of a mixed-use project named Town 1, which would include a range of commercial and residential uses.

Treenail is working with NASCAR driver Joey Logano on the project, which calls for 747 multifamily units and 419,300 square feet of various commercial development.

Treenail’s Ben Geisler has touted the project as a true mixed-use development. Site plans show 31 acres are designated for residential development and 30 acres for commercial development. The planning board was receptive to the project proposal.
