Katie Taylor to activate rematch clause against Chantelle Cameron

Katie Taylor will be back into action by facing Chantelle Cameron again, according to Eddie Hearn, who promotes both fighters.

They met on May 20 in Dublin in a highly-anticipated clash that Cameron ended up winning via majority decision. And now they will meet inside the ring again in November.

In their only fight, two of the judges scored the contest 96-94 in favor of the Northampton warrior, and the third had them level (95-95).

Taylor, who suffered the first defeat of her professional career (22-1), made it clear that she was only interested in running it back, rejecting any other immediate bout.

The 36-year-old fighter moved up in weight to face the undefeated and unified light welterweight champion (18-0), and even if losing, Taylor seems ready to go at it again.

“Katie Taylor is going to exercise that rematch clause against Chantelle Cameron. We’re going to plan that fight probably for November time. It’s going to be a huge fight”, promoter Eddie Hearn said.

He also stated that he offered Taylor the possibility of facing other boxers, including another mega bout with Amanda Serrano, but she’s only focused on beating Cameron.

It has been suggested that this time Taylor will move back down to 135 and that the English fighter will this time challenge Taylor for the belts at lightweight, although it hasn’t been official.

That would probably be the best scenario for Cameron, who would have the opportunity of becoming an undisputed and undefeated two-weight champion.

The rematch will probably take place in Dublin’s 3Arena on November 4 or 25.
