Gonzaga legend Drew Timme’s signing with Bucks has Twitter thrilled
The legend that is Drew Timme is coming to Milwaukee.
Timme, who became an icon at Gonzaga and in college basketball as a whole over the last four years, has agreed to an Exhibit 10 deal with the Bucks, and will be part of the team’s summer league roster, Journal Sentinel Bucks beat reporter Jim Owczarski confirmed.
Despite being a first-team All-American and the all-time leading scorer at Gonzaga and a perennial winner, the 6-foot-10 forward went undrafted Thursday, leaving many on social media scratching their heads.
But it didn’t take long for the head-band wearing Timme, whose handlebar mustache and his unfiltered interviews made him a folk hero in college basketball, to find an NBA home.
An Exhibit 10 deal is a one-year deal worth the minimum salary and allows for a team to sign this player to a two-way contract before the season.
Whether Timme makes the roster is to be determined and still appears to be a longshot. Regardless, social media was excited about Timme potentially joining Giannis Antetokounmpo and questioned how a player his stature couldn’t even get picked.
How did all of his college success not lead to one team drafting him? He averaged 21.2 points per game and shot 61.6% from the field last season. His 301 points across 13 NCAA Tournament games are sixth most in the history of the tournament.
Sure, he’s still just 22 years old, but his older-looking appearance made for plenty of good-natured jokes about his age that he fully embraced. And aren’t the Bucks already the oldest roster in the league?
No, he’s not quite Joe Ingles’ age (35) but the joke is well taken.
If the Bucks re-sign Brook Lopez, could he tutor Timme?
The sports teams around here like their “older” players. The Packers selected 24-year-old quarterback Sean Clifford in this year’s NFL draft to be a backup to Jordan Love.
