The four-star combo guard, who signed with the Tigers in November, posed for a photo outside the Memphis Sports and Events Center with members of the Empire State Blue Flames U-16 girls basketball team.
The photo was posted on Instagram Friday afternoon, although it is unclear when it was taken. The Memphis Sports and Events Center is hosting the NCAA College Basketball Academy this week. The boys’ portion of the event concluded Thursday, while the girls’ action kicked off Friday.
Williams is one of three Memphis basketball signees who has not officially reported to campus for offseason workouts, although he is listed on the program’s most up-to-date online roster. The 18-year-old was arrested in April in California on six felony gun charges and is awaiting his preliminary hearing, which is scheduled for Sept. 5.
On Thursday, Tigers coach Penny Hardaway was asked whether there were any updates regarding Williams’ standing with the program.
“Nothing has changed, thus far, with the program,” Hardaway said. “He’s part of it now. I don’t know how long that goes. I want him to be here. But obviously, circumstances are gonna dictate that.”

Williams’ arrest followed a shooting outside his California home in March. Williams pleaded not guilty to five counts of assault with a firearm and one count of shooting at an occupied vehicle. Police said he shot at a car with five people inside on March 27 outside his San Diego County home. He faces up to 28 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
The Tigers are traveling to the Dominican Republic Aug. 1-7 for three exhibition games. Memphis will face the Dominican national team on Wednesday (6:30 p.m.) in Santo Domingo, and two games against Dominican select teams (5 p.m. Friday, and 4 p.m. Aug. 6) in La Romana.
Williams is not expected to make the trip with the team, according to multiple sources.
