Kevin Garnett challenges LeBron James and Kevin Durant

Fans of the Minnesota Timberwolves will always have a special place in their hearts for Kevin Garnett. As the unquestioned greatest player in franchise history, his name is synonymous with the Timberwolves and their history.

Garnett is the sole reason Minnesota went to the playoffs for eight seasons in a row from 1997 to 2004. The Wolves would have never made their best playoff run ever in 2004 without the defensive mastery of KG, and his fingerprints remain all over the organization.

Nowadays, Garnett stays active in the NBA sphere. As a student of the game, he continues to analyze players and teams while mentoring others and providing constructive criticism where necessary. Recently, he gave his take on two of the most popular players on the planet: LeBron James and Kevin Durant.

Kevin Garnett issued a challenge to LeBron and KD.

On a preview for the latest episode of his podcast, Kevin Garnett speaks about LeBron and KD and challenges them to do something they are not so used to: play off the ball.

”LeBron and KD – it’s time for them to be spot up,” Garnett said. “We done gave the ball to them for, like, ages … can they play off the ball once?”

Garnett may have a point. With Kevin Durant and LeBron James turning 35 and 39 years old this year respectively, it may be time for them to start taking more of a backseat to their teammates.

Of course, this is something LeBron has already done for some time. With Anthony Davis acting as the Lakers’ best player for much of the last season or two, James has already learned that he does not have to be the alpha every night. Still, he could stand to improve his off-ball abilities.

Durant is in a similar situation. With Devin Booker and now Bradley Beal beside him, KD will have ample opportunity to make his impact as a spot-up shooter felt with the Suns this season.

Both aging superstars are entering the twilight of their careers. If LeBron and Durant choose to listen to Kevin Garnett’s tactful advice, it is likely they will even further elongate their decorated careers.
