Barcelona possess an excess in their defensive lineup, and consequently, any departures from the back-line cannot be ruled out at the moment.

Previously, it was reported that Marcos Alonso was studying an offer from a Premier League side, especially with his registration yet to be completed.

The talks of Alonso’s exit were soon shut down, but another one of Barça’s defenders has garnered interest from England.

The player in question is Eric Garcia, who may be hitting the exit door in light of interest from North London heavyweights Arsenal.

Arsenal have shown interest in Eric Garcia

Indeed, according to Football Transfers, Arsenal are trying to sign Barcelona’s Eric Garcia on a temporary basis following Jurrien Timber’s ACL injury.

Timber, the newly signed Arsenal centre-back, is destined to miss a large portion of the season, and consequently, Mikel Arteta has diverted his attention to a player he has experience coaching at Manchester City.

Barça’s overbooking in central defence indicates that they might be open to listening to any offers, and as per the report, the Catalans would rather sell the La Masia graduate than loan him out.

As long as the agreement to sign Joao Cancelo from Manchester City goes through, which appears a matter of time now, Barcelona are reportedly open to his departure.

The €10 million-rated defender has fallen down in the pecking order considerably, especially following the arrival of Inigo Martinez.

As such, the Blaugrana selling the fringe player with merely days left in the transfer window could benefit them in the aspect of Financial Fair Play, which will in turn enable any pending registrations.

Apart from Arsenal, Garcia is also on the radars of La Liga club Girona and it remains to be seen if a late exit materialises.
