Analyzing top 4 teams for 7’2 C Trent Burns

Trent Burns is a 4-star center prospect in the 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. Which teams are in the running to land him?

One NCAA Basketball prospect that was receiving a fair bit of attention this Spring and Summer was Trent Burns. He’s one of the tallest in the entire class at 7’2 and is fairly skilled overall, capable of shooting from deep and even handling the ball a bit. The native of Houston, Texas is a consensus four-star recruit, ranked around the top 100 overall.

With his recruitment picking up in the past few months, some teams have stood out as of late. And now, we know which of them are officially in the running. Below is my take on how Burns would fit with each of those options.

Missouri Tigers

The Tigers have a trio of frontcourt players entering their final years, including 7’3 center and Oral Roberts transfer, Connor Vanover. The team recently landed a four-star center in the 2024 class already in Peyton Marshall, who weighs nearly 300 pounds at the moment. There’s a scenario where Burns and Marshall can combine for 40 mpg at Missouri and the team can take them both, as long as they don’t add a veteran.

Rice Owls

The Owls are now in the AAC and hoping to attract better talent out of the state of Texas. With Max Fiedler leaving after next season, that leaves the unproven Ifeanyi Ufochukwu at center on the future roster. It’s an opportunity for Burns to get a ton of playing time and not only be a focal option but also stay close to home.

Tulsa Golden Hurricanes

Tulsa is completely rebuilding after an awful past season. They added some good guards and wings from the portal this offseason but didn’t do anything in the frontcourt, lacking depth. St. John’s transfer Mohamed Keita will get his chance this year but Burns would be a needed addition to give the Hurricanes some talent to compete in the AAC.

Xavier Musketeers

Even with Zach Freemantle having just one year left, the Musketeers actually have plenty of depth at the five-spot. North Texas transfer Abou Ousmane could play some center, while former Indiana big man Logan Duncomb has two years left. Plus, there’s the incoming freshmen, Kachi Nzeh and Lazar Dokovic.

Compared to the other options, Xavier certainly has more of a logjam to deal with. But they also have the best coach in Sean Miller, who has a great history of developing frontcourt talent. Burns could be the next success story for the coach and program.
