Fencing and Wrestling
Makuhari Messe, a large-scale convention centre, is located in Chiba in the Greater Tokyo area. It has hosted several concerts, exhibitions and festivals. It opened in 1989. Fencing and wrestling for Tokyo 2020 will both be conducted here, among other events.
Golf
The Kasumigaseki Country Club in Kawagoe city, Saitama extends across the Musashino Hills. Having opened back in 1929, it has hosted a number of major professional and amateur golf tournaments. Its East Course is the planned venue for Tokyo 2020.
Gymnastics
The Ariake Gymnastics Centre in Tokyo was initially planned as a temporary venue but will become a permanent venue. The area was earlier used for storing timber, which has been used liberally in the construction of the venue to showcase Japanese craftsmanship.
Hockey
Built in the Oi Wharf Central Seaside Park, the Oi Hockey Stadium has a main pitch and a sub pitch, with both having night-lighting facilities. It is expected to be used as a multi-purpose sports facility after the Tokyo Games.
Judo
Nippon Budokan was constructed in Tokyo for the judo event in the 1964 Olympics. It has hosted other sports as well as several concerts, including The Beatles, but its main use is for Japanese martial arts. National championships of various disciplines of martial arts are held here.
Rowing
Rowing will take place at the Sea Forest Waterway, built in the canals between the Inner and Outer Central Breakwater Reclamation Areas in Tokyo port. Dams at each end of the eight-lane course separate the Waterway from the Tokyo Bay and help maintain a depth of around six metres.
