Livingston leads No. 10 Cougars to sweep of Sooners – BYU Athletics – Official


NORMAN, Okla. — Outside hitter Erin Livingston tied a career high with 22 kills as No. 10 BYU women’s volleyball swept Oklahoma (25-23, 25-21, 28-26) at McCasland Field House on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars (14-3, 3-2 Big 12) hit a season-high .400 for the match, led by Livingston’s 22 kills on a .724 clip. Fellow outside hitter Eden Bower poured in nine kills, while opposite hitter Kate Prior added seven and middle blocker Mia Lee had six, hitting .545.

Setter Whitney Bower finished with 36 assists, while libero Kamaile Hiapo recorded a double-double with 18 digs and 10 assists. Eden Bower, Prior and Whitney McEwan-Llarenas tallied two blocks apiece.

Set 1
Fueled by seven kills from Livingston and four separate 3-0 runs, BYU took the opening set, 25-23. Hitting .342 in the first frame that featured 10 ties and seven lead changes, the Cougars also received three kills each by Prior and Whitney Bower, as well as a pair of kills from both Mia Lee and McEwan-Llarenas.

Set 2
BYU followed up its first set performance by hitting .344 in the second set behind seven kills from Eden Bower and four by Prior. The Cougars reeled off two 4-0 runs and a 3-0 run en route to a 25-21 set victory.

Set 3
The final frame featured six ties and three lead changes as the Sooners fought off two BYU match points. Three 3-0 runs, including the final three points of the match, and 11 kills by Livingston helped the Cougars hit a blistering .533 on their way to a 28-26 third set win.

After playing three-straight road matches, BYU returns home next week to host Texas Tech at the Smith Fieldhouse on back-to-back nights, Thursday and Friday, Oct. 13-14.
