No. 4 Volleyball completes WVU sweep

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – No. 4 Texas Volleyball remained undefeated in Big 12 Conference play with a second-straight sweep of West Virginia, 25-23, 25-17, 25-17, on Friday at WVU Coliseum.

The Longhorns (18-3, 13-0) rolled to their seventh sweep in Big 12 Conference play and 10th overall this season.

Jenna Wenaas led Texas with 12 kills, while hitting .333 in the match, and added two digs and one block. Madisen Skinner finished with 11 kills and had four digs and one block.

Asjia O’Neal returned to the lineup, hitting .500 and finishing with seven kills and four blocks.

Ella Swindle finished with 29 assists, four blocks, four digs and four kills. Emma Halter had 12 kills, one service ace and five assists.

Texas had to battle to a first set win, 25-23, as West Virginia hit .406 in the set and held the Longhorns to a .276 hitting percentage. O’Neal returned to the floor and led Texas with four kills on six swings.  

The second set was close at the start before Texas used an 8-2 run to grab a commanding lead. The Longhorns hit .389 in the set and held the Mountaineers to a .211 hitting percentage to win it 25-17. Carissa Barnes served an ace to finish off the set and give Texas a 2-0 lead.

The Longhorns closed out the sweep with another 25-17 win in the third set.

Texas will head back on the road next week to play at Kansas State on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
