Mississippi State, Alabama fall from latest poll

The SEC started slow in the football non-conference slate this season. It’s starting slow there in basketball, too.

The Week 5 college basketball AP Top 25 was released Monday afternoon, revealing just 3 SEC teams on the latest poll. Those 3 teams – No. 16 Kentucky, No. 17 Tennessee and No. 21 Texas A&M – saw Alabama and Mississippi State fall from last week’s poll.

The Wildcats, Vols and Aggies are trending down, too. All took tumbles of at least 4 spots from last week after sustaining losses. Kentucky fell to UNC Wilmington, Tennessee fell to North Carolina and Texas A&M dropped an ugly game against Virginia.

It wasn’t all bad, however. The Wildcats suffered their worst loss of the season to date a few days after boat racing Miami at Rupp Arena. There’s something to be said about the lack of consistency from the Cats, but sometimes that’s just basketball.

In addition to the ranked trio, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Alabama and Arkansas all received votes for Week 5’s poll.

Here’s a look at the full top 25:
