NASCAR Chicago Street Race to return for 2024 season – NBC Chicago

Tickets for next year’s annual Chicago NASCAR Street Race go on sale to the general public this week, according to an announcement from NASCAR.

According to the announcement, tickets for the 2024 race, which takes place on a 2.2 mile course in downtown Chicago on July 6 and July 7, will be available to the general public beginning Wednesday, Dec. 6.

“This year marked the first-time in the 75-year history of our sport that the NASCAR Cup Series took to the city streets for a race, and we are thrilled to once again welcome fans back to the city of Chicago for this bucket-list event,” said Chicago Street Race President Julie Giese, said in the announcement. “2024 will once again have something for everyone, with world-class racing action, A-list concert performances, and a breathtaking backdrop of the city skyline and Chicago lakefront.”

Ticket pricing this year begins at $150 for single-day tickets, the announcement said, with free general admission for children 12 and under to the NASCAR Xfinity Series Race, also known as the Loop 110. Youth prices for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Race, also known as the Grand Park 165, begin at $45, the announcement went on to say.

Two-day general admission tickets start at $269, with upgrades available for reserved seating and premium experiences, officials said. Two-day reserved tickets, which may include new suite seating options, food and drink private lounge access and more, begin at $398.

According to NASCAR, the Xfinity Series race will take place at 1:30 p.m. July 6, and the NASCAR Cup Series race will be contested at 3:30 p.m. Central on July 7. The course for both races will be the same as it was in 2023, officials said.

A look back at the 2023 race

According to officials, the 2023 race brought in more than $8.3 million in state and local tax revenues in 2023, with 52% of attendees visiting from out-of-state for the event, according to officials.

The broadcast was NBC’s most-watched NASCAR race since 2017, and the most-streamed race in NBC’s history.

The event was hampered by heavy rains, which washed out the conclusion of the Xfinity Series race and caused the Cup Series race to be shortened due to darkness. Despite receiving nine inches of rain in a two-day span, the race was contested, with Shane Van Gisbergen winning his NASCAR debut on the streets of Chicago.

The race, which shut down large swaths of Grant Park and portions of several key roadways including Michigan Avenue and DuSable Lake Shore Drive, was a unique spectacle, one that the racing circuit had never seen, but Mayor Brandon Johnson had pledged to reevaluate the event due to disruptions to traffic and other factors.
