The following student-athletes were selected to The Washington Post’s 2023 All-Met team for volleyball:

Emerson Sellman, OH, Sr., Holy Cross

The back-to-back All-Met Player of the Year had her best year yet for the area’s best team, leading the No. 1 Tartans to a 29-0 record and their first Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title since 2017. An Ohio State commit, she captained the U.S. under-19 national team to a world title last summer and came back with an even more accurate right hand and even better defensive acumen. The 6-foot-4 outside hitter had a case as both the area’s hardest-hitting force and its most accurate hitter, zipping 336 kills while leading the team in aces and blocks.

Bri Clay, MB, Sr., Battlefield

The 6-1 senior was commanding at the net and at her best during the Bobcats’ playoff run, averaging more than 14 kills and seven blocks per match in the postseason while guiding the team to its first Virginia Class 6 state final.

Erin Debiec, S, Sr., Bishop O’Connell

The Colorado State commit and two-time first-team All-Met selection, touted as the area’s top setter, had 877 assists and graduates from the Arlington program with two WCAC titles.

Ema Djordjevic, S/OPP, Jr., Richard Montgomery

The do-it-all junior, regarded for her brilliant volleyball IQ, had 250 kills, 341 assists and 146 digs for the Maryland Class 4A champion.

Ewing, a Penn State signee, helped the Bulldogs thrive in their first year in the Independent School League’s top division as she averaged five kills per set with a 0.522 hitting percentage.

The versatile Duke signee was a two-way force, averaging 4.4 digs and 2.5 kills per set to lift the Eagles to the Maryland Class 2A state title.

Chloe Hokenson, S/OH, Sr., Langley

The unshakable captain of the Virginia Class 6 state champion Saxons tallied 515 assists, 253 digs and 203 kills this fall. She will play at Emerson College.

Ryla Jones, MB, Sr., Flint Hill

The steadiest — and hardest-hitting — hand on the area’s most consistently dominant team, the Pittsburgh commit led the Huskies to their 11th consecutive ISL title with 243 kills.

Payton Swinton, OPP, Sr., Arundel

Swinton shepherded the Wildcats’ dominant senior class to a 62-3 record across three full years in Gambrills. She had 227 kills and 135 digs for the Maryland Class 3A state finalists.

Gretchen Barber-Strunk, Richard Montgomery

In Barber-Strunk’s 11th year at the helm, the Rockets doubled their wins from 2022 en route to the program’s first Maryland Class 4A state title, shining in and outside of Montgomery County. Said Djordjevic, a first-team selection: “She’s had us focused, had our heads in the game. She keeps us motivated; she’s a huge factor in our mentality. And she’s such a great woman.
