Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea in talks over potential move for Ian Maatsen

Ian Maatsen’s contract expires in either 6 or 18 months — depending on whether the “secret” contract extension option exists and was indeed activated in reality — but that really doesn’t have too much bearing on his immediate future, which is likely to involve a move away from Chelsea.

And that move could be to Borussia Dortmund, if a report form Dutch media is to be believed, which claims that the Bundesliga outfit are already in talks with Chelsea over a January deal. Chelsea are said to be looking for a transfer with Maatsen said to be open to the move, though the “conditions” are still just being defined.

So that’s nothing too concrete or specific, but Maatsen has had links with BVB before, way back in 2022, so this isn’t an entirely new idea. And the 21-year-old’s name is one of the first to come up when potential January exits are talked about, with his general lack of involvement so far this season not dissuading any such notion.
