University of Santo Tomas outperformed Far Eastern University in all departments in its stirring 22-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-7 victory in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay on Sunday, March 3.

However, the Golden Tigresses also produced more than their foes in one aspect  their errors.

UST fell to a maze of mistakes, compiling 40 miscues in the two-hour-and-31-minute match.

Golden Tigresses coach Kungfu Reyes admitted being disappointed with this glaring fact, but emphasized that the errors committed by his crew are “correctable,” particularly their 18 faults from the service line.

“Itong error na ito, especially ‘yung mga unforced errors sa service area, correctable naman lahat ng error na ‘yan,” Reyes said during the post-game press conference.

“Ang importante, sabi ko nga, we lose a point, we lose a set, but do not lose your character. Move forward. Kung nagkamali sa serve, bawi sa receive. So mayroon pang department na puwede kang tumulong,” he added.

Down two sets, UST found its groove, overcoming all the odds to beat the Lady Tamaraws with Angge Poyos, Margaret Banagua, Xyza Gula and Mary Coronado showing the way.

“Luckily, nakabalik kami sa sistema na mayroon kami at pinanghawakan ng mga players namin,” said Reyes.

“Kahit alam naming hirap na hirap noong first two sets, talagang hinahanap nila ‘yung rhythm kung anong mayroon kami noong third, fourth, and fifth set.”
