Satwik-Chirag are seeded third in the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024.
The men’s doubles group stage draw for Paris Olympics 2024 has been delayed further due to the fresh development involving the French pair Ronan Labar and Lucas Corvee. Labar-Corvee successfully disputed a decision made by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) regarding their qualifying rankings for the upcoming Summer Games, scheduled from July 26 to August 11.
Labar and Corvee pointed out that their qualifying rankings had been miscalculated by the BWF and that killed their chances of qualifying for the Olympics. The matter had to be escalated to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, where Labar and Corvee were declared winners. Following CAS’s decision, Labar and Corvee were handed a place at the Olympic Games and so are their teammates Christo Popov and Toma Popov.
First, the BWF’s calculating error put Labar and Corvee below the Popov brothers in the qualifying standings, placing them on the verge of exclusion from going to the Games. However, CAS intervened, ordering the BWF to write a letter to the International Olympic Committee to include Labar and Corvee as the 17th pair in the men’s doubles event at the Olympics.
After the CAS’ decision and all the changes in the qualification process, the BWF have announced to postpone the men’s doubles draw, which was due to be held on Friday (July 12). This will help the BWF to make proper adjustments because of the CAS ruling and to permit qualified pairs to be properly included within the draw.
Meanwhile, men’s and women’s singles, men’s doubles, and women’s doubles draws were held on Friday with the group stages and seedings for all four draws now confirmed.
