David Benavidez defeats Demetrius Andrade in 6 rounds

David Benavidez did it again Saturday night, winning his super middleweight boxing bout over Demetrius Andrade by fight stoppage after the sixth rounds in front of more than 9,000 fans inside Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.

The Phoenix-born Benavidez, now fighting out of Seattle, knocked down Andrade in the fourth round and was in control of the fight until Andrade’s corner called for an end to the fight.

Benavidez, widely considered the best in his weight class after boxing legend Canelo Alvarez of Mexico, called for a fight against Alvarez after improving to 28-0 with 24 knockouts and retaining his WBC interim super middleweight title.

“I just reminded everyone who the real champion at 168 is. Who wants to see me versus Canelo?” Benavidez said after the fight. “I’m going to be super middleweight champion of the world, three-time world champion. Now just give me the fight that we all want to see. Who wants to see Benavidez versus Canelo?”

Benavidez felt confident he had what it took to defeat the previously undefeated Andrade, and with the win can now take aim at Alvarez, his title belts and his status as the biggest name in boxing. Benavidez is nicknamed “El Monstruo” or “The Monster” after recently being called “The Mexican Monster’ by Mike Tyson.
