Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball outside hitter Harper Murray was arrested by local authorities this past weekend for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Omaha World-Herald reported that Murray – a 19-year-old freshman – had a blood-alcohol content reading that was far above the legal limit in Nebraska.
“According to (Lincoln Police Department) spokesperson Erika Thomas, Murray’s blood-alcohol content was .169, which is double the legal limit,” the outlet wrote. “Murray was also cited for reckless driving, obstruction of a peace officer, minor in possession and carrying a false ID. Murray was transported to a detox facility, and then she was cited and released.”

Authorities from the LPD said that they cited the Big 10 freshman of the year for multiple violations just before 1 a.m. on Friday morning. She was released after being hit with “first offense DUI, careless driving, minor in possession, possession of a fake ID and obstructing a peace officer.”
A spokesperson from the Cornhuskers’ athletic department said they were waiting for more information before commenting on the matter.
Murray had a fantastic freshman campaign for Nebraska. She recorded 3.23 kills per set, a .237 hitting percentage, 2.07 digs per set, and a team-high 36 service aces. In addition to being the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, she was named a member of the All-Big Ten First Team.
Nebraska finished the 2023 campaign with a 33-2 record, and lost to the Texas Longhorns in the NCAA tournament final.
