Jose Mourinho has given Ruben Amorim a glowing endorsement following reports that Chelsea are admirers of the sought-after Sporting Lisbon head coach.

Amorim, 39, is believed to have caught the eye of several of Europe’s elite as a result of the impressive body of work he has built up at Sporting, who are on course to win their second Portuguese title under his stewardship.

Premier League clubs have also courted the talented coach recently. Liverpool were heavily linked with Amorim before making a move for Arne Slot, while he flew to London for talks with West Ham last month. Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in Amorim as speculation over Mauricio Pochettino‘s future persists.

Mourinho is still highly thought of at Stamford Bridge after his two spells in charge of the Blues. And he’s now talked up Amorim, tipping him to succeed in any league in the world.

Speaking to Mais Futebol, Mourinho was asked for his thoughts on Amorim and said: “It’s also a question I shouldn’t answer, but what can I tell you? I like him as a person, I like him as a coach.

“I think he’s capable of coaching in any league and he’s capable of coaching at any club. But he’s in a good league and he’s at a great club.

“It’s his decision and it will be, or not, up to the clubs that want him or don’t want him or want to convince him, with more or less arguments. What’s clear from me is that I like the person and I like the coach.”

While Amorim’s future is unclear after he conceded his talks with West Ham were a mistake, the same can be said of Pochettino, who has endured a challenging maiden campaign with Chelsea.

The Blues have struggled for consistency again this year and are set for another disappointing finish in the Premier League despite spending in excess of £1billion on players under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

According to a report from The Mail back in late February, Chelsea officials have ‘significant doubts’ over Pochettino’s suitability for a role which he only begun last July. His inability to get the Blues challenging at the right end of the table has led to pressure and his position heading into next season is far from certain.

Pochettino, formerly of Tottenham, signed a two-year contract with the option for a third when he agreed to become Chelsea’s head coach last summer.
