Canelo Alvarez is now two months removed from his win over Jaime Munguia, with rumors running rampant about who his next opponent will be. Once again, it seems like David Benavidez is a distant afterthought, with Jermall Charlo still being mentioned as a possibility.
But over the last couple of weeks, steam has picked up for Chris Eubank Jr. to get a crack at the legendary Mexican. The 34-year-old is coming off of an impressive TKO victory over Liam Smith in a rematch back in September.
Could Canelo Alvarez fight Chris Eubank Jr in England?
It would be a likely exciting fight, but with Eubank being British could we see the fight take place overseas? It would be a huge move and concession from Canelo, but boxing analysts Teddy Atlas and Paulie Malignaggi believe it could be the right move. BoxingScene grabbed the quotes from ProBox TV’s “Deep Waters” show.
You could see Canelo maybe taking his act on the road to England, where he’d be welcomed with open arms. The English love their boxing and superstar boxers…Those boxing fans are the best in the world. They’d be rooting for Eubank, but, obviously, they’d be privileged and in awe to have one of boxing’s stars to choose their venue to fight at.
Atlas had this to say: “If you can bring it to London, that’s the money move. At the end of the day, you want the crowd. You don’t have Mexican Independence Day, you go to London.”
Atlas’ comments reference UFC booking the Las Vegas Sphere for Mexican Independence Day. Alvarez has been eyeing that weekend for a while, and he has made Vegas the home for his fights: 5 of his last 6 happened in Nevada.
