The Cleveland Browns officially begin training camp in two weeks so it seems like a good time to make some predictions about what we might see and hear from the players, coaches, and media members.
Though it’s been hinted at over the past few weeks, the team officially announces that Ken Dorsey will be taking over offensive playcalling on gamedays. Kevin Stefanski makes the announcement during an end-of-camp press conference.
The Greenbriar is known for having delicious food, and I would expect to hear about it at least one time from a member of the media.
Everything that’s come out of the organization is that Chubb is ahead of schedule and even sprinting in the facility. He’ll be cautiously working on lateral movement as well according to multiple sources, so seeing him out there moving around and doing some walkthroughs with just a helmet on is a reasonable projection.
Hall Jr. starts with the second and third-team units during the first few days of camp but then works with the first-teamers next to Dalvin Tomlinson on a consistent basis after that. Though this doesn’t mean Hall will be “taking over” the 3-technique spot from Shelby Harris, it certainly shows Jim Schwartz’s confidence in the rookie.
It’s no secret that Kevin Stefanski is known for masking his emotions on the football field but he’ll smile at least one time each day.
Closer to the end of the 2023 season, Tillman was used in the slot quite a bit as opposed to out wide and he was surprisingly effective there due to his size and strength. It could be beneficial to Tillman’s development and overall effectiveness in the offense to continue on that route.
The team drafted Nathaniel Watson in the sixth round of this year’s NFL Draft and the notion is that he’ll be Bush’s top competition at SAM throughout the summer due to his overall size and skillset. On the other hand, Fields has been an incredibly productive player for Cleveland so far and he’s shown the ability to dodge blockers with speed and agility similar to Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.
It’s hard to picture a sub-230 lbs. linebacker playing SAM but it’s easier to do in Jim Schwartz’s attacking-style defense. Based on his experience and trust of the coaching staff, Tony Fields II ends up being the one who splits reps with Bush on the first-team unit rather than Watson throughout camp.
