Pickleball tourney underway at Cherry Hill

About 500 teams are competing in the Coeur d’Alene Classic pickleball tournament that opened Thursday on state-of-the-art courts and runs through Sunday.

Parker Subaru partnered with the Inland Northwest Pickleball Club with an $85,000 donation to turn four tennis courts at Cherry Hill Park into 12 pickleball courts. As part of the agreement, the facility will be named The Parker Subaru Pickleball Complex for the next decade.

The name change must still be approved by the Coeur d’Alene City Council. The city signed a memorandum of understanding with the pickleball club for use and care of the courts.

“The Parker Subaru Pickleball Complex represents our commitment to supporting healthy, active lifestyles in our community,” said Kyeli Reinert, human resources director at Parker Subaru. “We’re thrilled to partner with INWPC to bring this project to life and provide a premier facility for pickleball enthusiasts to enjoy for years to come.”

The courts are open to the public.

INWPC has long envisioned the transformation of the courts but faced challenges in securing the funding. Parker Subaru’s contribution not only brings this dream to fruition but also enables additional enhancements, including the installation of windscreens around the courts.

“With Parker Subaru’s support, Cherry Hill Park will become a hub for pickleball enthusiasts, fostering community engagement and well-being,” a press release said.
