Referee announced for Cork-Clare All-Ireland hurling final

Johnny Murphy has been appointed to referee the All-Ireland hurling final between Cork and Clare.

Murphy was always likely to emerge as a strong contender on the back of his native Limerick failing to make the decider for the first time since 2019 and he is the first referee from the county to be given the honour since Pat O’Connor in 2003.

Murphy hails from the Ballylanders club and has previously taken charge of the All-Ireland minor final in 2018, All-Ireland under-20 final and Leinster hurling final in 2021 as well as last year’s All-Ireland club final.

It will be his 18th SHC game to referee since first joining the panel in 2018 and he has already reffed the Tipperary-Clare in the Munster Championship, Wexford-Dublin and Dublin-Kilkenny (Leinster round robin) and Clare-Wexford ties in this year’s Championship.

His umpires on the day will be clubmates Micheal Meade, James Hickey and Jimmy Barry Murphy along with Andy Dooley from Garryspillane.

His linesmen will be Galway’s Liam Gordon, who will also be standby referee, and Michael Kennedy of Tipperary, while Chis Mooney (Dublin) will be the sideline official.
