The highest levels of professional boxing have been accused of match fixing forever, it’s a common practice that is responsible for the lack of overall interest in the sport during recent years. We still have mega fights where tens of millions of dollars are paid to both fighters and their respective teams. But the majority of events of this magnitude end up losing entire fortunes. Byt this point, perhaps only a few promotions would go through the hassle of creating the event and making it be successful for them. Although match fixing has never really been uncovered in recent decades, that doesn’t mean it still doesn’t exist. But for Saul ‘Caelo’ Alvarez, taking a position would determine whether he will be scrutinized or not.

Duyring a recent visit to Mexico City, ‘Canelo‘ was on many different shows for the most important media companies in the country. One of the shows he atteded was with presented Adela Micha, who has a fun quiz game for all her guests. During this exchange, Alvarez was asked if match fixing at the highest levels of boxing might be possible. As expected, the Mexican boxer took a stand against this practice and was very clear about his beliefs. Alvarez got a little serious when he responded to the question from Adela. This is what Alvarez said: “You can’t really fix matches, not at these levels. I’m not syaing it doesn’t exist but it is impossible at this level.”
What makes people wonder if there is any match fixing at these levels of boxing is very simple. There isn’t a merit-based competition and each boxing council hold their own set of rules. Boxing is so divided right now that getting together for match fixing does seem pretty impossible. However, never say never because life has proven us repeatedly that anything is possible in sports. Folks will blame Canelo of match fixing forever, especially if they don’t like him. But that is no evidence that the Mexican champion has been part of this crime. Currently, the Middleweight division does not have many fighters on the same level as Alvarez.
