TCL
EXCLUSIVE: Magilla Entertainment, the company behind series such as Moonshiners and Long Island Medium, is getting its boxing gloves on.
The business, which was founded by Matthew Ostrom and Laura Palumbo Johnson, has struck a deal with new boxing organization Team Combat League (TCL).
It will see Magilla, which is currently producing Theresa Caputo: Raising Spirits for Lifetime, develop and produce unscripted series and documentary content around the league and its fighters, coaches and owners.
TCL launched in 2023 and is the only boxing league with a team model. Currently in its second season, with 12 teams competing out of major U.S. markets – and additional territories on deck to join ahead of its 2025 season – Team Combat League combines rising boxing talent with seasoned veterans. It pits cities versus cities in a season spanning 30 contests, culminating with its championship bout, Mega Brawl.
Weekly events feature male and female boxers competing across eight weight classes in a total of 24 individual one-round contests. Each match is broken up into three periods. The first 8 rounds are the Launch Rounds, rounds 9-16 are the Middle Rounds and rounds 17-24 are the Money Rounds.
“We are thrilled that we will have access to Magilla Entertainment’s experience and creativity to tell the stories of our resilient fighters,” said Dewey Cooper, President of Team Combat League. “TCL’s innovative event structure has disrupted the professional boxing industry, and our fighters are the backbone of our league; they make great personal sacrifices to be able to compete in their craft and represent their cities. I personally can’t wait to see Magilla’s expertise in action.”
“The rate at which TCL is growing, building its fanbase and attracting the world’s top fighters, along with high-profile supporters and owners, makes this a very exciting pact for Magilla,” added Magilla co-founder Matthew Ostrom. “As sports broadcasts and sports-centric unscripted content continue to draw large audiences, TCL is poised to break through in a major way; we’re thrilled to bring the action, and the league’s many dynamic personalities and stories, to viewers.”
