Alderson: I Think Bauer Would Be a Great Personality in New York

Keeping with the positive energy of the press conferences earlier in the day, Sandy Alderson spoke fondly of top free agent starting pitcher Trevor Bauer when being interviewed on WFAN Tuesday.

“I actually think Bauer would be a great personality in New York. The kind of guy that fans would endorse. We’re in the entertainment business.” Alderson explained.

Bauer is likely to be awarded the NL Cy Young after pitching to a 1.73 ERA with the Cincinnati Reds this season. Along with speaking to his polarizing personality, Alderson mentioned that Bauer’s unconventional ideas toward pitching could benefit whichever team he lands with next season.

The 29-year-old free agent has often advocated to pitch on three days rest and is a great proponent of incorporating data-driven analytics to his pitching.

As there truly appears to be no limits on who the Mets could target this offseason, Bauer’s agent is likely to at least get a phone call from Alderson’s new front office in the coming months.
