Kurt Busch fans are still not over the heart-breaking news shared by the 23XI Racing driver recently. On October 15, 2022, the 2004 Cup Series champion announced that he would be retiring from the NASCAR Cup Series racing in 2023.

Earlier in July, Busch suffered a concussion during a wreck at Pocono Raceway. As a result of the crash, Busch had to sit out this Cup Series season. Fans believed that their favorite athlete will be back after taking his time to recover. However, Busch has now officially announced his departure from the full-time Cup Series season in 2023.

In a press conference at the track’s media center, Kurt Busch hinted at continuing racing in part-time championships and series. But apart from his announcements, a lot of people questioned the noticeable absence of Kurt Busch’s family at the press conference.

Explaining why Busch’s family was not present at the event, The Athletics’ reporter Jeff Gluck posted a Twitter update. In his tweet, Gluck explained that Busch had asked them not to attend the news conference. Furthermore, he mentioned that Busch’s teammate Bubba Wallace and team co-owner Denny Hamlin were present with him at the conference.

The decision obviously has been a tough one for Kurt Busch and his family. With his love for driving, Busch said that he would now like to enjoy racing with less pressure and would close the door to racing after fulfilling the things that he always wanted to do.

In the announcement, Kurt Busch explained that his doctors have advised him to ‘shut it down for this season.’ Moreover, he said that he is still not 100% recovered and would like to focus on his health before anything else. Furthermore, he explained that he will not be able to commit to a championship at this point in his life.

But he made it clear that his decision was not determined by his crash at the Pocono Raceway. he said; “There’s not one moment or one circumstance that has led to this decision. It’s a layer of things. And just to be frank and to smile a little bit, I mean, I’ve wrecked a lot of [crap] in my life — old cars, new cars. And so over the years, things add up.”
