Former world No 6 Gilles Simon admits he “never liked” Andy Murray’s game as he is looking forward to playing the Briton for one final time. Simon, 37, is playing the final tournament of his career at the Paris Masters.

In the Paris Masters first round, Simon will be taking on 35-year-old Murray. When Simon and Murray meet, that will be their 19th meeting. Going into the match, Murray owns a dominant 16-2 head-to-head versus Simon.

Simon on playing Murray

“You have to play one!

Each adversary has its advantages and disadvantages. Andy is a difficult player to play, especially for me. I never really liked his game, it was always difficult. Now, as always, I still beat him twice. I cling to that, I tell myself that I can always do it.

I was also able to push him several times, matches where I served for the match, some matches were really tight. It’s been a while since we played. We’ll see. It’s a special match. I will try to concentrate, play well, move well.

We’ll see what’s next,” Simon said, per We Love Tennis. Interestingly, Simon defeated Murray in their first meeting, at the Rome Masters in 2007. After losing the first meeting against Simon, Murray then claimed 12 consecutive wins over the Frenchman.

Eight years after beating Murray for the first time, Simon clinched his second and to this day last win over the Briton. In the 2015 Rotterdam quarterfinal, Simon defeated Murray in straight sets to snap his 12-match losing streak against the Briton.

Since the Rotterdam match, Murray and Simon met four times. In those four meetings, Murray clinched four victories. However, it should be noted that their final meeting came in Vienna, in 2016. Now, Simon is set to meet Murray again, in his final tournament. It remains to be seen if Simon can beat Murray and clinch at least one win in his final tournament
