Francesco Molinari celebrates fortieth birthday

Francesco Molinari, the strongest and most successful Italian golf player ever, turns 40 today. It is certainly the symbol of our home golf for the last ten years. Francesco Molinari won on the European tour, on the American one and three Ryder Cups.

One, that of Paris 2018, as an absolute protagonist. He plays permanently on the PGA Tour, in the United States (where he has lived for some time). Molinari also came close to the Masters but he didn’t make it. He has not been at the top for three seasons but – we know – competitive sport is made up of ups and downs.

Personally I have only one word for him: thank you. (s.l.)

Francesco Molinari, the career

“Laser Frankie” is the first (and for now the only) Italian to have won a Major: The Open in 2018. That was the golden year of the Turin player who had previously managed to win the BMW PGA Championship and the Quicken Loans National (PGA Tour).

Then he dragged Team Europe to triumph at the Ryder Cup 2018 in Paris with five wins (European record) in as many matches. Such a curriculum allowed him to receive the Coni Gold Collar for sporting merit and to be nominated by the BBC as a non-British 2018 world sportsman.

2019 also got off to a great start for the Piedmontese with his success at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March. Then, in April, Chicco Molinari caresses the feat at The Masters, but the dreams of glory end up in the water a few holes from the end.

The green jacket goes to Tiger Woods (at the 15th Major of his career). After that setback, Molinari never won again. First the transfer from England to the USA, from London to Los Angeles (with a stop in San Francisco). Then, the epidemiological emergency with few tournaments played in 2020.

And now Molinari dreams of redemption But the declared seasonal goal is to reach qualification for the Ryder Cup 2023 in Rome. Francesco Molinari is an Italian golfer. He is the younger brother of Edoardo Molinari. On 22 July 2018 he entered the history of Italian golf by becoming the first Italian to have won a major tournament with the conquest of the 147th British Open.
