Sky Sports won’t feature IShowSpeed on air again after misogynistic comments

Sky Sports will not be collaborating with YouTuber ‘IShowSpeed’ in the future after the emergence of his previous misogynistic comments online.

‘Speed’, real name Darren Watkins Jr, was present for both of Manchester United’s matches last week, at Old Trafford for their 3-1 loss to Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup on Thursday as well as the 2-1 win against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday. He has 10.5million TikTok followers, 5.4m Instagram followers and 13.1m YouTube subscribers.

During the Carabao Cup match, Sky Sports showed a clip of IShowSpeed in the stands. They also posted about his presence at the game on their Twitter account.

On Sunday, IShowSpeed appeared on the broadcast of United’s match against Fulham. The streamer appeared in a segment with Sky Sports presenter Geoff Shreeves, where he announced the team news — which did not feature Cristiano Ronaldo, to Speed’s disappointment. He is also well-known for his fandom towards Ronaldo and arrived at both United matches last week in hopes of watching the Portugal international play.

Clips of the segment were posted on Sky Sports’ YouTube and Twitter account, along with further posts about his presence at the game.

On Monday, however, previous content of IShowSpeed emerged online, where he can be seen making misogynistic and derogatory comments on his streams.

All traces of IShowSpeed have since been removed from Sky Sports’ social media channels and website and the broadcaster have decided to cut any ties with him regarding future appearances on their channels.

IShowSpeed is a teenage social media personality, who gained prominence after streaming a variety of video games, including FIFA. In September, he also took part in a charity football match organised by YouTube collective The Sidemen, alongside other internet personalities which raised more than £1million.

IShowSpeed has been contacted for comment.
