Deontay Wilder shares controversial take of Mike Tyson’s career in old footage

Most people who have enjoyed boxing and study the sport’s history will tell you that Mike Tyson was the scariest man on the planet during his prime. During the late ’80s era, other fighters who faced him were scared out of their minds just moments before the fights started. But apparently, not everybody thinks Tyson was such a scary fighter. In fact, there is another heavyweight who has a hot take about Mike Tyson’s overall career. Although the footage is old, Deontay Wilder was very clear when he was talking about Mike Tyson’s career and history in the sport. In his mind, Mike Tyson doesn’t deserve to be treated as one of the best boxing heavyweights in history because he only fought two hall-of-famers.

In an old resurfaced video, Wilder makes the case that Mike Tyson lost twice against Evander Holyfield and once against Lennox Lewis, Both of these fighters are hall-of-famers. People won’t like this take from Wilder that is years old but it recently emerged online again. This is hat he said: “Let’s face it, half of y’all motherf***ers don’t know your history when it comes to this sport of boxing. You do not know your history, you do not know your facts, you don’t know s***. All you know is what you hear. We all like Tyson, of course. We love them all, I love them all, they did a great job. Everybody was scared of Mike Tyson, let’s face it, because of his aggression, the way he would say it, the things he would do.”
He continued: “He would be a goddamn psycho, he was nuts, so of course if a person go crazy outside people are gonna get fearful of the person. But, if you go back, and I want somebody to answer this question for me, how many Hall of Fame fighters did Mike Tyson actually fight? How many Hall of Fame fighters did Mike Tyson actually fight? Don’t bring up Michael Spinks who came from light-heavyweight to heavyweight, that was terrified out of his motherf***ing boots. And don’t bring up Larry Holmes because we already know Larry was way past his prime, so how many of them? We gonna do all work today goddamn, I’m going to take you all motherf***ers to school because y’all don’t know nothing about what you’re talking…
