Naomi Osaka has shared an inspirational message as the four-time Grand Slam champion says having the belief in yourself is the key to success. Osaka, 24, hasn’t played much over the last year and a half but she is still one of the biggest names in women’s tennis.

Last week, Forbes published its list of the highest-paid female athletes in 2022. For the third consecutive year, Osaka is the highest-paid female athlete in the world with $51.1 million earned this year. “Believe in yourself.

I promise it’ll get you much further than you can imagine,” Osaka tweeted.

Osaka has a different metric for success now

Ever since going public with her mental health issues during the 2021 French Open, Osaka has been focused on improving her mental health and trying to be impactful outside tennis courts.

In a recent post for Net-a-Porter, Osaka admitted her metric for success in the past used to be her wins and losses. “I knew that if I kept up that self-deflating dialogue, nothing I did in life – no win, no loss, none of it – would really matter.

I had to learn to change my own definitions of success,” Osaka wrote for Net-a-Porter. In 2021, Osaka launched Kinlo – a sunscreen brand for people with melanated skin. This year, Osaka launched her own sports agency – EVOLVE.

Also, Osaka has become a leading advocate for athletes’ mental health in the sports world. “We need to determine our own metric of success to avoid being defined by others. We should still celebrate those wins but, when they don’t come, we need to remind ourselves that the game doesn’t define the person,” Osaka said.

Osaka appeared in a total of 11 tournaments this year. However, Osaka has signed up to compete at the Australian Open and she will be contending for her third title at Melbourne Park in January.
