RACE HEATS UP FOR BRONCOS ACE

A six club race has emerged for Broncos superstar Pat Carrigan who has cemented himself as one of the NRL’s best middle forwards.

The 25-year-old lock is free to negotiate with rivals come November 1 for the 2025 season and the Storm and Raiders are reportedly among the clubs preparing lucrative offers.

According to The Courier Mail, two Sydney clubs have also expressed their interest in Carrigan who is expected to garner offers worth upwards of $800,000 per-season.

While a host of clubs are desperate to sign Carrigan, the Broncos are reportedly set to sharpen their pencil to keep their marquee man and are set to begin extension talks.

The news comes only a week after Brisbane were dealt a big blow with both Tom Flegler and Herbie Farnworth joining Wayne Bennett’s Dolphins.

Melbourne were the first to express interest with their first approach reportedly coming in January, while the Raiders see Carrigan as a replacement after missing out on David Fifita.

Carrigan signed a two-year extension last season and Brisbane powerbrokers reportedly are desperate to retain the player they consider key to their future success.

As it stands, Carrigan is reportedly earning around $500,000 per-season but once the salary cap is finalised in the new CBA his salary will receive a bumper 18 per cent boost.

Rugby league legend Scott Sattler labelled Carrigan the club’s “future captain” and encouraged him to remain at Red Hill.

“It would be good to see Pat stay at the Broncos. As a player that has come through the system, like the Panthers players, it’s always satisfying to lead the charge of juniors and win a comp together,” Sattler said to News Corp.

SHARKS BACKROWER’S BIG CALL

Cronulla enforcer Teig Wilton is reportedly hot property, with at least six clubs lining up to sign the backrower.

Wilton’s contract ends after the 2023 season and is free to negotiate with rivals for the 2024 season and beyond.
