NBA style power rankings: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scoring points on, off the

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is in the midst of his best season on the court — and off the court if his pregame outfits are factored in. Much like his game, Gilgeous-Alexander’s sense of style was apparent from the moment he was drafted in 2018.

What intrigued teams most about Gilgeous-Alexander was his potential. He’s living up to the expectations and is on his way to exceeding them — whether that means game winners while trying to lead his team to a postseason berth or the clothes he rocks before said games.

Let’s take a look at some of my favorite fits this season from Gilgeous-Alexander thus far:

10. Nov. 17

A leather magenta button-down shirt may be one of the rarer finds. And if you’re new to Gilgeous-Alexander fits, you can usually expect one of three things (if not all three): boots, baggy pants and avoiding looking directly at the camera. All of which he often makes look cooler than most people.

The brown color of these pants does a nice job of complementing the magenta, but Gilgeous-Alexander chose to wear white-and-brown sneakers rather than boots. This fit exudes the confidence of a player coming into his prime, averaging career highs in points, steals, blocks, free-throw percentage, field goal percentage and minutes.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw this photo was Travis Scott’s “3500” song — for a couple of reasons. First, Gilgeous-Alexander has a mystique similar to Scott’s, from his hair to his poses that don’t face the photographer. Second, I’d imagine this jacket is in the four-figure ballpark.

His white sweater and white boots accentuate the white in his coat. I also appreciate the fact he kept the pants brown, just in a lighter shade of the coat.

8. Dec. 5

I’ve made reference to the movie “Blade” before, but no fit I’ve seen all season reminds me of that more than this. In the most stylish way possible.

The simplest way to sum up this all-black fit is “sleek.” The leather trench coat has a bit of a sheen, as do his pants and woven boots. Gilgeous-Alexander’s Chanel chains are the only items worn that aren’t black, and they provide a subtle yet necessary contrast.

7. Jan. 12

This brown leather biker jacket with a red stripe has a vintage look to it. Gilgeous-Alexander seemed to notice, as well, as he also rocked a long Jesus piece, reminiscent of the early 2000s, and jeans with a washed appearance. His black shirt and boots work as an undertone to the brown in his jacket.

Throwing up the peace sign could be a go-to for him, but for the sake of the nostalgic fit, I’ll assume he did it knowing it’s a classic pose.

This intentionally shaggy cardigan stood out instantly. The Chanel logo caught my eye, plus the blue in all shades drew me in. The light denim doesn’t diminish any of the blue in the cardigan; it almost makes the blue more noticeable.

To add, Gilgeous-Alexander’s blue suede tote bag fits…
