Premier League ditches plans for Drive to Survive-style Netflix documentary

The Premier League has ditched plans for a Drive to Survive-style Netflix series.

Talks with the film company behind a potential behind-the-scenes series on England’s top flight had been underway for many months.

However the negotiations have broken down and no such series will be made with British-based Box To Box Films, run by producers James Gay-Rees and Paul Martin.

Like the hit show about Formula 1 racing on the Netflix streaming platform, the programme would have involved behind-the-scenes access and interviews with players and senior figures in the game.

As well as Formula 1: Drive To Survive, Box To Box has also been responsible for the Make Us Dream documentary about former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and The Kings docuseries about boxing’s welterweight heyday.

Televised productions and documentaries with Premier League clubs have become popular in recent years.

Amazon’s All or Nothing series have documented life at Manchester CityTottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, while the cameras have also recently taken a fly-on-the-wall look at Sunderland and Leeds United.
