Rugby league legend Scott Sattler believes maligned Tigers halfback Luke Brooks needs to leave the NRL for a short Super League stint to reignite his career.

The 28-year-old is one of the most heavily criticised players in the competition and the merger club currently sit dead last, being the only team without a win in 2023.

Brooks is on the final year of his current contract and Sattler believes it would be best for the 2015 Dally M halfback of the year to travel abroad.

He also likened Brooks’ position to that of Jackson Hastings, who left the NRL and won the Super League’s Man of Steel award before returning to Australia in 2022.

“I think the best for Luke Brooks would be, go to the U.K Super League, start again,” Sattler said on SEN.

“He’s on big money, he’s not going anywhere with the money he’s on… unfortunately it’s the situation they’re (the Tigers) in because they’ve got him signed to a long deal on big money.

“They made that decision based on a kid that became the halfback of the year… it’s all about confidence when your team’s not making finals and you’re the man wearing the number seven.

“For Luke Brooks, when he comes to the end of his contract this year and he may not gather any interest from other clubs, there’s nothing wrong with saying, ‘You know what, I’m going to go to the U.K Super League’.

“Like Jackson Hastings did, like Brodie Croft is doing right now, go and reinvent yourself, get some confidence back in your game, there’s nothing wrong with it.”

Brooks has also been shifted between halfback and five-eighth in recent years, with coaches attempting to get the best out of his running game.

As it stands, Brooks is playing in the No.7 jersey under experienced coach Tim Sheens.

Sattler believes the playmaker isn’t a true halfback, but as it stands, he is the Tigers best option to play in the role.

“Maybe Luke isn’t that number seven that can handle that role but it’s all they’ve got at the moment,” Sattler said.

“I truly believe Luke Brooks is really damaged physiologically around where he sits in the game at the moment.”

Meanwhile, Tigers fullback Daine Laurie, who has fallen down the pecking order under Sheens, could be a perfect fit for one club.
