Barbora Krejcikova reveals she is ‘trying to avoid’ some Russian players

Barbora Krejcikova claims there are Russian players who are “creating tension in the locker room.” In recent weeks, there has been a lot of talk regarding the rumored tension between Ukrainian and Russian/Belarusian players.
Krejcikova, one of the best Czech tennis players, confirms there is indeed tension in the locker room and reveals she is “trying to avoid” some Russian players. “Yes, I feel it. On both sides. But there are some Russians who create it.
They don’t speak publicly, but we see what they do in the locker room. Personally, I try to avoid them,” Krejcikova said, via Tennis-Infinity.
Krejcikova supports Ukrainian tennis players
Krejcikova, the 2021 French Open champion, says she has been there for Ukrainian players since Day 1.
“I have been in contact with them since the beginning of the war. At the very beginning, I wrote to them to find out if everything was okay with them, if I could help in any way. I tried to support them. I know what is happening at home, I follow the news,” Krejcikova said.
Recently, the International Olympic Committee announced its intention to allow Russian and Belarusian players to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Krejcikova believes Russian athletes should not be allowed to compete in Paris.
“I think that the Olympics have always been a celebration of friendship and peace. And if the country is waging an aggressive war, then it clearly does not respect these ideals. Anyone who supports an attack on a neighboring country has no place at the Olympics,” Krejcikova said.
Meanwhile, Russian and Belarusian players will be allowed to return to Wimbledon this year. For months, the ATP and WTA were pressuring the AELTC to end their ban on Russian and Belarusian players. In late March, Wimbledon officially confirmed their ban on Russian and Belarusian players was ended.
