Mayweather Jr. looked for Canelo when he was 18 years old, offered him 1 million

The Mexican champion gave an interview to DAZN where he talked about the time “Money” sought him out to offer him a fight. At the time Canelo was 18 years old, and although the offer of $1 million was tempting, he passed it up.

“They offered me the fight with Floyd when I was 18 years old. They offered me $1 million. At the time I was making $5,000. I was moving around in a truck and I had three jobs.”

Canelo added that Eddy Reynoso advised him to let the opportunity pass, that fights with better purses would come later, and they did.

When Alvarez faced Mayweather Jr. in 2014 he took a guaranteed purse of $4.5 million plus box office and pay-per-view sales.
