Why Liverpool want to make Khephren Thuram their next midfield signing
Khephren Thuram seems to be the next midfielder at the top of the list for Liverpool after completing the signing of Alexis Mac Allister.
Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League last season and were knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage after failing to lay a glove on Real Madrid in a repeat of the 2022 final. The aim for Jurgen Klopp is to get his side back into contention in 2023-24 – but to do that he is going to need more signings, particularly in midfield.
Last season highlighted how much work the Reds’ engine room needs doing to it and while Mac Allister is a start, at least one more addition is needed.
Thuram is very much on Liverpool’s transfer agenda. But should the new France international make to move to Merseyside from Nice, what kind of player would Reds boss Klopp be getting?

The ECHO spoke to Get French Football News’ Luke Entwistle for all of the details about the 22-year-old’s game and how he could improve the Reds heading into next season.
Jurgen Klopp has reportedly personally asked for Khephren Thuram. What would he add to the Liverpool midfield?
“Verticality, ball progression and agression in the press. Thuram is already an elite dribbler and uses his frame to drive though the thirds, and once in full flow, he can be difficult to stop.
“Given the departures, it is perhaps unclear how Liverpool’s midfield will look so having such a rounded, box-to-box element in there will add an important degree of versatility to the mix.”
Thuram has also been linked with PSG. Would a move to Anfield be better suited for the youngster?
“The latest reports from Le Parisien suggest that PSG aren’t interested in pursuing the Nice midfielder this summer. Like Liverpool, it is difficult to know what PSG’s midfield will look like next season. Verratti, a stalwart in the side for a decade is being linked with a move away, whilst a new manager is also set to take the helm.
“Despite this era of transition at Liverpool, the club represents a more stable option than PSG.”
Is Thuram destined to be a star for the French national side?
“There is something of a golden generation of French midfielders coming through. Kante and Pogba, through injuries, are less present on the international scene, and this has been the case for a couple of years, but their successors already play for huge clubs. Tchouameni endured a difficult second half to the season, but he will likely bounce back, and has already established himself as a starter under Deschamps. Camavinga has been utilised at left-back by Les Bleus of late, but he is young and will likely slot back in at midfield soon enough.
“Others are coming through as well, whilst Guendouzi and Youssouf Fofana, both just slightly older than Thuram,…
